Walter Shurman Rainwater family

Walter Shurman Rainwater was born on 13 Oct 1873 in Rusk County, Texas, to Little Berry Moore Rainwater and his first wife, Susan Ann Marinda Parker. He was one of nine children born to this couple, and had an additional seven half-siblings from his father’s second marriage. The family lived in Rusk and later Collin County, and the children attended local grammer schools.

On 1 May 1893, Walter married a Kentucky girl, Elnora E. Nesmith, called Nora in most records. This photo shows them on their wedding day.

Together the couple had six children: Barry Melvin, born 6 May 1893; Delia W., born 18 Jan 1896; Marvin Bishop, born 15 Jul 1898; Vernon Oliver, born ca 1902; Homer E., born ca 1904; and Callie W., born ca 1907. They were a farm family, with all of the children working on the farm.

Walter died on 12 Jan 1929 of a combination of influenza and pneumonia. Nora outlived him by 33 years, dying on 14 Oct 1962, also of pneumonia. They are buried in Princeton Cemetery, in Princeton, Collin Co., Texas.
